Advertisement for Democracy

This assignment is the second component of your Culminating Activity for Civics. You are to choose one of the eight major stages in the evolution of Democracy and create an advertisement in the form of a flyer that praises this event. Your goal is to produce a piece of work that shows this event as the most significant stage in the development of Democracy.

TOPICS:

Hammurabi's Code Glorious Revolution (Two Treatises)
Athenian Democracy (Athens) French Revolution
Roman Empire American Revolution
Apartheid (ends) Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms

Any other topic must be discussed and approved by the teacher.

Your assignment must include the following:

  1. Location -- Where in the world did this happen? A map with the area located and labelled might be a good idea.
  2. Parties Involved -- Identify the main people and countries involved in this event. Remember pictures are worth a thousand words.
  3. Artifacts -- Don't forget the year(s) of the event and add a few examples of inventions or even other important events that occurred around the same timeframe. This will help the reader gain some more knowledge about your subject.
  4. Content -- Explain why this event occurred? What was the result?
  5. Spice of Life -- Add any interesting fact that you discovered while doing your research that may help draw an individual to your work.

REMEMBER -- neatness, organization, colour, grammar and illustrations are key components to this assignment.

This assignment is worth 50 marks, which is 6% of your summative mark. The marking scheme being used for this assignemtn will be given out in class.
