The Product:
What you are aiming to do:

1. This product will be submitted in the form of a scrapbook that will hold 25 - 40 newspaper, magazine, or Internet articles.  Each student is encouraged to decorate the cover/and or title pages for each topic.  These decorations could include artwork, political cartoons, political symbols and graphics.
2. Whenever a person picks up a book he/she usually looks at the index to quickly view the contents.  Each scrapbook MUST contain an index on the inside of the cover and colour code your legend for easy access to topics.
3. Read the outline carefully and complete all the tasks that are given.  DO NOT complete additional work in the hopes it will replace what you are being asked to do.
4. APPEARANCE REFLECTS ATTITUDE!  Make sure your work is neat.

The Process
(the steps taken to create the product):

bulletComplete each of the following categories for your scrapbook:  Municipal, Provincial, Federal Government and Political Figures . (Note: political figures could be elected, appointed, or lobbyists/activists.)

bulletFirst Step: Accessing information:
You are encouraged to use the school library resource centre, public  libraries as well as electronic sources.  (See specific references below.)

bulletSecond Step:  Collecting and evaluating resources:
a) SUBMIT original, photocopy or print copy, highlight and cite articles on the aforementioned categories. (NEATLY).  To cite an article use a BLACK PEN and print directly on the article to identify: name of the resource, full date and page number of the source.
b) HIGHLIGHT - Use a different colour for each of the following and create a COLOUR CODE LEGEND that appears on the inside cover in the finished scrapbook.
ii) names of key people and organizations
iii) political vocabulary:  highlight words even if you don’t know the meaning.  Use the glossary in your textbook to define the word
iv) issues/problems requiring action
v) solutions or action plans recommended
vi) key lines summing up the main idea of the article

bulletThird Step:  Summary statements:
It is time to explain what each article is trying to teach the reader about a certain level of government or a political figure.
a) What topic(s) is the clipping discussing ? citizen’s complaints, political decision-making, lobbying, problems facing citizens and/or governments and solutions to issues.
b) After identifying the topic write out a statement in your own words and then find an example from the article to prove what you are saying is correct.  Put your proof in quotation marks under your statement.
c) Lastly, explain how the author of the article wants the reader to feel towards the topic.  Positive, negative, sympathetic, empathetic.  Explain how does the article make you feel. (2 to 3 lines)

bulletFourth Step:  The last page of your scrapbook will be a written summary of what you have learned while doing your scrapbook.  Be careful, you should NOT be repeating previous statements made in your book.  Each student will be asked to identify three ideas/attitudes that he/she has found important.

bulletFifth Step:  Marking scheme for the process:
This project is worth 15% of your overall mark and 50% of the Summative category for this course.
Hand it in on time:  Lete assignments will lose 10% per day and that includes weekends.
